Robot Framework Browser Setup or Demo Repo

Hi All,

Good day to you.

I have earlier tried and successfully automating scripts for desktop app for SAP GUI. Now i have a new requirement of writing UI automation test scripts for new projects. I am already familiar with playwright and that makes things slightly easier in understanding robot framework browser.

But since this will me creating a new project, repo and the entire setup, I am looking for guidelines on how to build project through any tutorials or demo repos.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Hi Trevor,

There are 2 robot libraries that are commonly used for browser automation:

  • SeleniumLibrary - As it’s name suggests it provides robot framework keywords and uses Selenium underneath
  • Browser Library - which provides robot framework keywords and uses Playwright underneath.

As you’re already familiar with Playwright, Browser Library is probably a good choice, though you don’t need to know Playwright to use Browser Library, just use the keywords like you would with any other robot framework library.

FYI - There is also Requests Library if you need to make http protocol level calls for API’s etc.

Hope that helps,

Dave.

Hey @damies13 ,

Nice to hear from you again.

Do you know if there is demo repo to follow project structure, guidelines and such?

Hi Trevor,

I was going to suggest the style guide, which is still worth looking at, but I noticed it doesn’t cover project structure.

There was a Wrobocon talk by Artur Ziółkowski on Scalable TAF (Test Automation Framework) where he covered structuring the project folders of your robot files, so that’s probably worth a look.

BTW there is the annual Robocon conference (Finland) and Wrobocon Conference (Online from Poland), they both have YT channels with many of the presentations from the past conferences so they are worth subscribing to, you can learn a lot there:

Dave.

Thank you for your quick response Dave
